As well I wanted to let you reflect visually on the stations of the cross that are in our parish. Some of you may have never had the time to notice how truly unique they are. Beautiful woodwork takes up different vantage points on each station. These are the scriptural stations that were inaugurated by Pope John Paul II in 1991.
This can be done at your own pace. As you start each station you will hear the familiar, “We adore you, O Christ, and we praise you…”. You will then see the text leading you through the familiar response: “Because by your holy cross, you have redeemed the world.” Then you will see the scripture. You may want to pause the video (as it is only there for a few seconds) so you can read at your own pace. Then there are a few short words written to introduce the reflection. After that you will hear a piece of music or a poem as you see the station of the cross from our own parish church. After that you may go to the next station on this page as you feel called.
I hope that by looking at these works in a slow and meditative way, along with the various pieces of music and poetry (as well as three short reflections that I do) we can come away with a slightly new appreciation for this ancient liturgy. As well, of course, we may come away with new insights regarding the last days of Jesus and our own journey through life.
May your last few days of Lent be profoundly meaningful and richly blessed,
Fr. Patrick
