In our reading for today, Matthew 13: 36-43, we are faced with the challenge of what to do with the weeds. The disciples, once again, come to Jesus and ask for an explanation as the early church is faced with those who seem to be from the Evil One. What should they do? And Jesus tells them, leave them be. God will take care of the weeds on the day of judgement.
How difficult it is for us to let the weeds be. Shouldn’t we be judging them, rooting them out, and removing them? And the message is, God will take care of it, not our job. That takes trust in our God. It also takes patience and compassion on our part to let the weeds grow with the wheat in our world and in ourselves.
